The imposing Victorian "Baltimore" townhouse, constructed of red brick by Walter and Martha Arrel in 1881, has long stood as a prominent landmark in the village. The couple, who wed later in life, owned a sprawling 200-acre sheep farm beyond the town limits. Seeking respite from the rural solitude, Martha persuaded her husband to build her this exquisite residence on 500 South Main Street.
With the village's consent, Martha brought a few of her cherished sheep to graze on the village green and near the Presbyterian Church.
In 1986, Steve and Ginny Meloy acquired the home, undertook extensive renovations, and established The Inn at the Green Bed and Breakfast. The couple operated the inn for over two decades. Following a period of neglect under subsequent ownership, Mitch Veynovich stepped forward, embracing the challenge of restoring this village gem to its former glory and reopening itas a renowned bed and breakfast.
As with any ambitious renovation project, the timeline has stretched beyond initial expectations. However, the construction team and designer remain steadfast in their commitment to delivering a meticulously crafted result.
